Modding is generally pretty straightforward, unless it's changed considerably in the last couple years. You download Forge, follow the directions to create a Forge-specific .exe, create a profile in the Minecraft launcher that points toward that .exe, then paste all the mods you want into the mod folder that will be created when you run the Forge exe. You may have to do some tweaking with prerequisites and incompatibilities, but it's overall nothing too complicated.

There are indeed ways to mod out hunger. Some mods do it by giving you equipment or other items that automatically consume whatever food you're carrying, others have items that keep hunger topped up for free or based on some manner of energy source, others just remove the mechanic.
