When you're at the point where you're willing to do that, you're not really thinking about what the scars will look like in 20 years. You may not even expect to live that long. Exercise doesn't compare. When you're at those depths "yeah, let's work hard!" doesn't cross your mind. Push ups and running don't gratify that same destructive, violent impulse. --- As long as politics is the shadow cast on society by big business, the attenuation of the shadow will not change the substance.
