The variety of atheism that gathers in groups and spends absurd amounts of time and energy trying to convince others that God (or gods) do not exist sure does look a lot like a religion to me. It's also the type that gets the most media attention, as just being normal and not beleiving in god does not make for particularly interesting reading.

I completely understand the agnostic viewpoint, and I think many people who call themselves atheists are actually agnostic but use the wrong word to describe themselves, in part because it's really not that important to them.
