If someone is sentenced to imprisonment, that is their sentence. That is their punishment. All of the above shit should be considered criminal in and of itself. For-profit prisons should not exist. If we have any program by which anyone profits in a prison, it should be an educational program for the inmates to reduce recidivism.

You start reasonable but then go on a bizarre side-rant. First off, even state-run prisons have people profit off incarceration. Second, the "profit" in private prisons comes from the state paying people to take prisoners, as well as charges that would be incurred in a normal prison, too. While there are good reasons to get rid of private prisons, it seems like most people in here don't understand how they fucking work and are conflating their features with normal prisons.

And, honestly, solitary tends to be better than being put in the general population where there's the risk of rape and violence. However, solitary is more expensive, so it's not as widely-used.
