This is just not true, they have added in abilities, held items, double battles, weather, terrain, and had the physical/special split, all of which changed it quite a bit from gen 1 Yeah, they've made plenty of changes to the battle system throughout the years. The core is still the same, certainly, but this isn't Final Fantasy. There's no reason to expect the battle system to fundamentally change with each new game. --- This is my signature.
