It got nastiest along the Mason-Dixon line between the north and south where the populace had evenly split opinions and control of the state was in question. The Revolutionary War was probably more interesting from that angle, though. There were English 'loyalists' everywhere, no formal armies on the continent when the conflict started, and volunteer militias popped up everywhere on both sides to do a significant percentage of the fighting. --- Pronounced "Whup-pot".
