Typo, obviously. Should be a decimal and not a comma.

I feel DSO is a band that thrives on variety, and this is their most varied album.

It definitely has a lot of variety to it and I appreciate that. I don't usually listen to albums outside of ranking topics (long story), but this was a rather unique trip. I'll refrain from directly commenting on how the album tracks compare to your other nominations because I do *occasionally* refrain from blatantly spoiling things.

...though comedically enough, I do blatantly spoil something in one of the following three songs' writeups:

============================

#608: Linkin Park - Runaway (3:03):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9voGeDduOXM&list=PLSZnrWBCBT3ng1xEWEkXC91StoZjD8BP3&index=6

Nominator: Mega_Mana [27/38 Remaining[

Initial Score: 73.80
Revised Score: 58.20
Final Score: 55.46 [Upgraded to 55.943]

(First Reaction: Angsty teenage-type song, but that works for me. It's also pretty similiar to Crawling, but... that also works for me? I've got no complaints about what it is.)

It is one of the few songs on Hybrid Theory to contain unusually little rapping by Mike Shinoda, just like "Crawling".

Aha! So this song is superficially similar to Crawling in ways that other people have noticed. I feel irrationally pleased that I was kinda right about something, even if I didn't know why or articulate that thought in any way.

So, this song has had quite a dramatic tumble from its original placement. I actually love the instruments in the opening (those are my tones, right there). but I'm less interested in the topic of running away than I was the first time around... and the lyrics get really repetitive towards the end. The last minute is almost monotonous, which is a tragedy when the song was only three minutes to begin with. When I feel like I could cut a full third of the song and not really miss anything, that's really not a good sign.

That being said... instruments I love and it does have a lot of the traits I love about the band, and it's definitely a song I -can- love when I'm in the right mood for it. I'm just not in the right mood at the time of this Revised Score and I suppose we'll see how I feel about it at the Final Score.

[Final Thoughts:

Random YouTube comment:

"Why do so few people know this song? It's so good actually. My local radio station plays it a lot and no one enjoys it."

Oh, I love that comment. From the deadpan comedy of this song plays a lot but no one enjoys it, to the way they pose a question ("Why do so few people know this") and answer it themselves ("no one enjoys it"), that is comedy gold.

Aaanywho... this song is something that I kinda like, but it's still on a downward trend. This isn't as drastic a fall as it was between the first two scores, but still... for whatever reason, I'm just not clicking with the song lately.]

[Later: Minor boost to rearrange the list slightly.]

-I still hate how her name is officially "Ple" now instead of "Puru". Shouting pleplepleple is not nearly as much fun.-

#607: Alf Inge Wang - In-Game Music (240 Second Countdown) (from Kahoot) (4:06):

Nominator: rwlh [18/24 Remaining]

Initial Score: 50.47
Revised Score: 55.34
Final Score: 55.50007 [Upgraded to 55.946]

(First Reaction: I highly suggest anyone interested in listening to this song do so before reading any of the following comments, which are spoilered to be on the safe side.

I like the idea of a song that's a mystery, even to its nominator.. I usually wind up nominating things that are new to me at topics;, there's usually at least one pick that's more of a "hey, look at this thing I just found!" than a carefully considered nomination. Unfortunately, this misses the mark a bit... I still have my personal issues with repetition and the metronome-esque TICK.. TOCK... TICK.... TOCK... at a consistent pace throughout the song actively ruins the relaxing vibe the song has going for it.

And then the song spontaneously freaks out and speeds up in a sudden "you are going to die now, bitch" fashion to make sure you know that your time is almost up and good Lord, there is no reason for a song this tranquil to spontaneously attempt to induce panic. It's all, "just relax. It's like you're sitting in a field. You have to complete this test, but you may do so at your own pace. This is a safe place. *gets out a chainsaw* Well, a safe place if you finish in the next 30 seconds or so, at any rate!!!" and it's like, Jesus song, what the hell is wrong with you??
)

...Alright so the sudden intensity isn't really that intense if you know it's going to happen. It's still an interesting song. I like the mellow vibe most of the song has, but I do also enjoy the rather intense spike of emotion at the end. It's a fairly novel experience and I can see aspects of things that I love in it; if it did away with the ticking and the dramatic spike, we'd have a very nice atmospheric song and I'd like it quite a bit. If it went all in with the tension and managed to keep the panic building properly, I'd love that too. As is, it takes two things I love and does them... adequately enough to be enjoyable, though I'm not super wild about it. Still, a fairly neat experience, and one I could easily imagine someone picking intentionally for me as it's doing things I've praised in the past.

[Final Thoughts: Yeah, I kinda like this.]

[Later: Minor boost to rearrange things slightly.]

....huh, the next writeup takes up too much space & I can't fit all three into one post this time. Alright, give me a couple minutes then.
