#223:

And four more to end the morning:

====================

#592: The Isley Brothers - Summer Breeze, Pts. 1 & 2 (6:11):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3o6ECdCZ7Q

Nominator: rwlh [16/24 Remaining]

Initial Score: 63.01
Revised Score: 56.393
Final Score: 56.393

(First Reaction: It's been quite a while since I listened to this version of this song. I'm much more familiar with the abridged Seals & Crofts version that would play on the radio, but I like this variant as well; there's some really nice electric guitar here that gives it a sexier vibe. Kinda fun to hear for a change of pace.)

!I'm just so used to the Seals & Crofts version of the song that this sounds kinda odd... some days I'm intrigued by the odd feelings, while others I just kinda want to go listen to the more familiar version.

[Final Thoughts: The abridged S&C version is an incredibly hard shot of nostalgia, but while this extended version is intriguing, I'm having a very hard time adjusting to it.It's just this special combination of "very familiar" and "very different" to be boderline uncomfortable at times... I usually like the Isley Brothers & I do kinda like this song, but I think I'll be sticking with the original.]

[Later: Like the instrumental version of Grazing in the Grass before it, this is a neat version of a song I really like but so different that I have a hard time judging it fairly.]

#591: Grimes - Belly of the Beat (3:25):
https://open.spotify.com/track/3tcMadg7fSfH0mFDo0408i?si=b90b44964b3a4391

Nominator: Player_0 [21/33 Remaining]

Initial Score: 60.00
Revised Score: 54.60
Final Score: 56.41

(First Reaction: I know I should stop seeing what people on Genius say about songs, but how could I ever deprive myself of brilliant insights such as this:

Here, Grimes contemplates on the nature of death in comparison with imagination or escapism through art. She begs the question: who is really dead the living or the dead?

Ah, never change random internet commenters. Never change. Anywho, I do like this, so I'm just going to throw it into the Clump of 60 Point Songs and worry about the writeup later.)

!In this post we beg the question, which songs are truly eliminated - those that have been eliminated or the ones that haven't??

[Final Thoughts:

I, I've been thinking, I've been thinking
I, I could leave the world today
Everybody dies, we cut out their eyes and we dance like angels do

That's suitably bleak enough for me to kinda like this. The song also has a surprisingly pleasing vibe to it for something so upbeat and dance-y.]

#590: The Dear Hunter - Melpomene (4:14):
https://open.spotify.com/track/5Xm02MlB2lRdR4LEAd8q8t?si=07867bf33e8643fa

Nominator: NBIceman [19/22 Remaining]

Initial Score: 56.12
Revised Score: 56.29
Final Score: 56.50

(First Reaction: I do like it, but it's a bit of a generic love song and the lyrics about bringing him out of the dark don't really work for me (I'm all mopey and embracing the darkness and rarr)... it's good and I enjoy it enough that I don't mind listening to it, but it's not quite for me.)_

!A fairly sweet love song, but perhaps a bit too sweet and optimistic for my current tastes.

[Final Thoughts: I do want to draw attention to one particularly clever line:

Gasping for air with the lungs of a lark

"From the Story Time with Casey

Theres a lot in the line Lungs of a lark. Larks are fragile, and since the line is sung by Hunter, he is also representing himself as a very fragile person trying to express himself. Also, a Lark can imitate other birds, and the Boy is mimicking another person too."

Now, see, that is clever. And one of the only times in this entire topic series that Genius had something relevant and interesting to say about a line; I know, I shouldn't check that site, but *SOMETIMES* you get an actual insight into something.

Anyway, this is a sweet song. Not the type of romance that personally appeals to me, but it's fairly nice and I kinda like it.]

#589: Parov Stelar - Catgroove [3:56]:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXrdYwG17PE

Nominator: paulg [33/52 Remaining]

Initial Score: 60.00
Revised Score: 57.00
Final Score: 56.7739

(First Reaction: I'm not entirely clear on what this style of music was, but I think I like it enough to add it into the massive Clump of songs.)

!It's intriguing, but not quite at that 60 point level of intriguing.

[Final Thoughts: I suppose this is Electro Swing? It's kinda neat. Still in that "instruments that don't inspire anything specific" category, but neat enough that I still kinda like it.]
