Four more drops, including two more from the same nominator:

#555: Son Lux - Dream State (5:02):
https://open.spotify.com/track/1jXRr5iln16y27EM85HMJ3?si=Deka8ttSTIqJRJbxpYeHjQ

Nominator: Jesse Custer [26/29 Remaining]

Initial Score: 65.00
Revised Score: 53.79
Final Score: 58.02

(First Reaction: I don't know the musical term for it, the part starting at 2:25 greatly appeals to me. The early parts of the song were kinda "meh", but then it cuts to almost total silence and just kinda floats in a void for a minute (I do love my endless voids), before the drums decide to mimic a heartbeat, slowly increasing in intensity as the song begins to pick back up... that wss wondrous. The singing just doesn't work with that environment though and I get pulled out of my trance as soon as his voice comes back in,

That musical void was almost panic attack inducing, like my heart wanted to start beating faster to match the accelerating drums, as the song does its best to simulate a panic-induced heart attack of someone trapped in an all-consuming darkness that is shattering their mind. And then some guy shows up. And it's like, hey, you, singer guy: Who invited you to my void of non-existence?

I give the void 100 points and 30 points to the actual song parts, which I guess I'll average to 65 for now. That doesn't quite feel right... like the actual song portion is significantly longer than the void, so it should have a greater influence on the final score. BUT... it did have one section that was perfect, so I suppose I'll let the 65 stand as a first reaction.)

!Sadly, the all-consuming void loses some of its intensity when you know it's coming up, so I'm not completely in love with that part of the song as I was initially... but I also like the singing somewhat this time around, so the song feels like a more consistent "early-mid 50's" point song as opposed to the chaotic "I both incredibly love and actively dislike this" reaction the song had originally.

[Final Thoughts: Not a bad song. His singing has grown on me a bit--or at least, I like the lyrics. Reminiscing about a past with feelings that can't be reclaimed and leaving the day for a brighter night are definitely subject matters that play rather well with me & it does have a pretty nice musical void (I do still love my falling voids).]

-I hadn't noticed that we'd reached the 58 point marker last post-

#554: Mulatu Astatke - Ykrmo Sw (4:13):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwdBRqIsVUY

Nominator: rwlh [14/24 Remaining]

Initial Score: 56.3302
Revised Score: 56.34
Final Score: 58.025

(First Reaction: It's quite pleasant.. I'm not wild about it, but it makes for good background music and I like it well enough.)

!Still very pleasant and easy to listen to, rounding the score up slightly because it doesn't feel like it needs such a specific number.

[Final Thoughts: Not a lot to say here, apart from the standard "good instrumental that doesn't make me think of anything specific", but it's a very pleasant song that goes up in placement a bit each time.]

-getting closer to the next tier, though we've still got a ways to go...-

#553: Morcheeba - The Moon (3:28):
https://open.spotify.com/track/4kGU6etXBP6u8aULDWYXm0?si=CsRcdHOpRtm2AEV_SVRYnQ

Nominator: Jesse Custer [25/29 Remaining]

Initial Score: 56.15
Revised Score: 58.04
Final Score: 58.04

(First Reaction: Yes, I like moons.

...that's it, that's the writeup.)

!The slow song compliments her sensual voice quite well and I'd be interested in trying more of her work later. Not sure I'd find anything that I really like, but she seems to be highly talented and well aware of what type of songs suit her.

[Final Thoughts: A good song all around. Good band, good singing, good lyrics; nothing I love enough to make it jump to the next tier, but always a very welcome song to hear.]

#552: Prism Age - Ivresse [4:17]:
https://prismage.bandcamp.com/track/ivresse

Nominator: Kopazzynth [12/21 Remaining]

Initial Score: 60.00
Revised Score: 56.13
Final Score: 58.065

(First Reaction: Future music, like we're running through the streets of Neo Tokyo which is like Regular Tokyo, only everything is neon--especially blue. Lots of neon blue lightning on basically everything. This song is the most neon blue song ever recorded.

...also, I now have Icehouse - Electric Blue stuck in my head thanks to saying the word "blue" so much:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUFOVu1CurM

)

!Zippy-zappy future instrumental. Neat, though for whatever reason I'm less into it now.

[Final Thoughts: I enjoy this more than the second time, though not quite at the 60 point level like the first time. Averaging the scores gives "58.065" which feels like a good placement for this. It's an enjoyable Bright Neon Future Jam; not quite one I vibe with enough to go back up a whole tier, but definitely on the higher end of the "kinda like" grouping.]

[Later: Am I the only one reading that First Reaction to the chorus of MC Frontalot's Stoop Sale?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFOPwL32UvI

It was Neo Tokyo, which is like Tokyo, 'cept that it's in neon--'specially blue
And in Neo Tokyo, which is like Tokyo, 'cept that it's in neon, I got my due]
