There are things that happen in it that only land as well as they do because they're "Your wish has been granted" tier gaming moments, but they aren't nearly as impactful if you didn't grow up playing all of his games and there's something very special about that.

Yeah. I speak from the perspective of somebody who has been in love with the series since Metal Gear Solid on the PS1, and I do mean in love. My brother and I had a yearly tradition that ran for at least 15 years where we'd schedule a time to get together and run through MGS, MGS2, MGS3, and MGS4--adding each one to the list as new entries came out.

He would play it, and I would watch it. So for me, MGS is alllll about the story and characters. I've played through all of them at some point or another, but my experience with the series is like 80% as an audience member, not the one playing, which also colored my opinion of MGSV significantly.
