I would like some details, since I could potentially put a significant amount into this under the right circumstances.
It was through DomainAgents considering that is what you are redirected to when you search mario.com. They act as a medium to make and accept offers on behalf of the client they are working for. I received an email stating that this is a premium domain name and could likely go above 70,000. According to other 3rd party valuation sites, though, I am seeing other values closer to $25,000. I asked the agent if a lower bidding offer could be made since it would be ridiculous to make a bid for a price they are expecting, when the owner may be willing to settle for less. After all, I feel there has to be a reason Nintendo is not interested, and it's either that the domain owner is asking for way too much (in that case, we probably would have no chance at getting it), or that Nintendo just does not care about owning mario.com, which would mean the domain is not as valuable as the owner was hoping for originally.

I made the topic a little in jest yesterday, but after reviewing the information, I think DomainAgent possibly is just trying to drive the bid up in order to get a higher commission. I wouldn't be surprised if 25k is closer to the value.

On the other hand, I have no expertise in domain ownership.
