We could be the proud owners of mario.com, but imagine the possibilities of owning mario.com (or at least a share of it).

The price could be a lot more as well.

Honestly it's an investment. You know Nintendo is gonna shell out more than that to get it themselves.

Edit: ninja'd. So we're all in agreement then.

I'm just wondering how the heck has Nintendo not bought Mario.com?!?

I wonder if Nintendo has tried in the past, you would think after all these years of the internet, Nintendo would have wanted the domain name.

an independent 3rd-party. Full transparency, this was through a medium, so I don't know what price the domain owner would actually want, could be significantly less or significantly more.

I would like some details, since I could potentially put a significant amount into this under the right circumstances.

It was through DomainAgents considering that is what you are redirected to when you search mario.com. They act as a medium to make and accept offers on behalf of the client they are working for. I received an email stating that this is a premium domain name and could likely go above 70,000. According to other 3rd party valuation sites, though, I am seeing other values closer to $25,000. I asked the agent if a lower bidding offer could be made since it would be ridiculous to make a bid for a price they are expecting, when the owner may be willing to settle for less. After all, I feel there has to be a reason Nintendo is not interested, and it's either that the domain owner is asking for way too much (in that case, we probably would have no chance at getting it), or that Nintendo just does not care about owning mario.com, which would mean the domain is not as valuable as the owner was hoping for originally.

I made the topic a little in jest yesterday, but after reviewing the information, I think DomainAgent possibly is just trying to drive the bid up in order to get a higher commission. I wouldn't be surprised if 25k is closer to the value.

On the other hand, I have no expertise in domain ownership.

Additionally, there are other mario sites you can buy. For instance, you can buy mariobros.com, mario.store or more surprisingly, supermariobros.com

I'm seeing a listing for supermariobros.com at 8,000.

Literally, you could own SuperMarioBros.com for 8k. It doesn't get much traffic, though, but it almost feels worth it.

EDIT: What would be more worth it? Mario.com or SuperMarioBros.com?!?

Nice, just gotta monetize the hell out of it! Ad on every square inch of the screen.

Yeah, maybe it's to make sure people who have no money, i.e. teens and such, won't waste their time with bid requests.

If we become part shareholders in mario.com, do we earn the right to say "It's a-me, Mario!"?

This will color how much I am willing to spend.

I mean, I gotta imagine that we do. What's Nintendo going to do? We literally will own Mario.com at that point!

Dude, there are actually so many ways we could troll with Mario.com.

I like how TC followed up with an agent, excellent fact work! :D I sent a co-worker at work this story because I thought he'd find it amusing. Most I could pony up now comortably is like 500 bucks and even then that's nothing compared to even 25K.
