Even in the best-case scenario where Metal Gear trips on a hole and falls directly into the lava AND Cloud is dead, it's gonna take a while to properly go down and Aigis is in a very bad place anywhere around it. This lets Vivi, who passively reflects magic which is probably gonna be Aigis' go-to instead of shooting the incredibly durable robot, kinda just sit there and weakness snipe at Aigis while Salmisanthropeus or whatever passively creates covering fire as it slowly melts to death. And then Crono probably thinks he's gonna survive charging through the lava to beat a dude up and... doesn't. He very much does not.
