Reddit keeps suggesting the Spider-Man subreddit to me, so I actually kind of have the gist of the story without actually having read it.

This whole storyline apparently started with everyone hating Spider-Man, even down to people like Captain America. Norman Osborne is his only real ally. MJ is with this dude named Paul and apparently has two kids. It was meant to be this big mystery about what he did to make everyone hate him. From the very first issue of the storyline, the question was, "What did Peter do?!"

The backstory so far, from what I've gathered, is that Peter and MJ were trapped in an alternate dimension. They met this dude named Paul and found a portal which Paul pushed Peter through. When he came out on the other side, he buried his Spider-Man suit for uh. Some reason. I guess to hide his identity? This isn't me not knowing btw, people were complaining about that making no sense. Anyway, apparently there was some kind of explosion at that location and his suit being there implicated him.

So while Peter's rushing to try and get back to MJ, he beats up Captain America who's trying to help him clear his name because there's "no time to explain!" He also robs the Fantastic Four When he goes back into the dimension to save MJ, it's revealed that time moves differently. She got over their relationship and now she and Paul have had two kids together. Somehow. While on the run from the big evil dude in this dimension.

That's not the sole issue, people were complaining about it long before all of that was revealed. This entire storyline seems to just be Peter getting shit on relentlessly and people are just tired of it. Marvel seems to very much want Peter to be this miserable piece of shit forever trapped poor and alone because that's rElAtAbLe.
