Right before I did a modest test of strength and I beat the boss pretty easily. But major test sounds scary and I only have 4 hearts. Revelation34 posted... If you have a fire sword to equip you can also go to the snow region and do the "bowling" minigame for rupees. I was going to do that but it feels too much like cheating.
