You still need to randomly see prerequisite events, but marriage-enabling events (and one certain plot event later in the story) happen asap afterwards There's a way to cheese a specific event without inflating playtime if you wanna save and reload for like max 30 minutes, events start on certain set in stone days so keep multiple saves to figure out a day that an event starts, invite involved characters to your party, save, and load->sleep until both leave your party the next day.
