Discs these days are mostly used as activation keys. You get a broken game on the disc that is mostly unplayable unless you get the day one patch. Without internet you might as well have bought a paperweight.
7R didn't get a patch until it had been out for half a year. Wouldn't be surprised if Rebirth is the same.

The first part was in reference to how modern physical games still completely install to the harddrive so, once the install is done, you have the same thing as if you'd bought the game digitally except you need a physical "key" to run it.

Granted it's understandable it works this way since actually running from a disc would make load times miserable, but it does kind of highlight how awkward and outmoded physical media is becoming.

Yeah, I know that's how it works. It's still good to have an alternative to downloading the whole thing, especially for people with data caps.

It's ridiculous.

YoshiP has been making a big deal about how they have complete confidence in the gold version of FFXVI and they there will not be a patch for release.

It is amazing that that is a thing that needs to be touted as a shocking achievement nowadays.

I mean, it makes sense. If the game was totally ready when they printed the discs a month+ ago, why not release it a month earlier instead?
