Owning a house is expensive but houses appreciate so goddamn fast.

Bought our 3 bed, 2 bath brand new in 2018 for 405k. We are currently pending sale at 560k. We essentially got 30k a year just for owning the house. Its insane.

Now we are moving into an older 7 bed, 3 bath and starting a remodel to make it into a 6 bed 4 bath (master wasnt a true master so we are making one from two bedrooms that adjoin). We got this older house with minimal issues and a brand new roof on it for 450k in a smaller town.

Which, will probably appreciate by the time we move again in 5 years.
