Ive never understood the appeal of Pokmon. Shin Megami Tensei came way earlier, and you recruit demons, evolve some of them, and fuse them together to make bigger badder demons, then you make them fight for you.

Pokmon is the same thing but with dorky baby monsters instead of cool demons.
I like both series, but Pokemon has more broad appeal in that the monsters are far more approachable and secular, which is not something SMT has since its monsters are based on real-life religions and mythologies. (With some games going as far as to include the Biblical God and Lucifer as participating entities.)

Plus, the social elements of Pokemon also helped make it popular. No mainline SMT entry or even the spinoffs allow for PvP trading and battling, which is a huge point in Pokemon's favor.

Additionally, while SMT as a series predates Pokemon, no mainline SMT game had a release outside of Japan until 2004, 6 years after Pokemon's international debut. By that time, anything that came after would have been seen as an imitator.

Also, your post comes across as "edgy tryhard".
