To be fair, he didn't simply say "just stop caring". But I think there is a crucial difference between anxiety disorders and clinical depression. With anxieties, people are often responding to external stimuli and concerns, and having a rational discussion about said external stimuli can be beneficial for many people. Anxiety is also more likely to come and go in waves, while depression can just stick around. Clinical depression is also much more internalized, meaning you can't simply talk about the things causing the depression.

Now, once again, I have generalized anxiety, so sometimes I do have to try to figure out what is setting me off at the moment, but usually working through it helps.
