If your primary concern is "fucked up" anime then you can't go wrong with Made in Abyss. Though I feel compelled to warn that the author is kind of man who talks about traveling to Malaysia while thinking about child porn. A certain degree of what makes it fucked up stems from that. How Hollywood thinks they can do a live-action version is utterly beyond me. Anyways, it's a very good story in spite of its very strong negatives. But you need a high resistance to loli / shota characters to tolerate it. It's not one I would recommend to most people unless they're really deep in the weeds of looking for anime beyond the surface-level normie stuff.

I can second Death Parade, Madoka Magica and Boogiepop. If quality is of no concern I guess I could recommend Chaos;Head too. It's not very good but it definitely hit a lot of fucked up moments that earned it a cult following way back when.

Personal recommendation would be Re:Zero. (Re: Life in a Another World From Zero). The protagonist has the power to resurrect to a predefined previous checkpoint whenever he dies. The author uses this to great effect in finding new, horrifying ways to kill off characters. The main character is highly divisive but he slowly starts becoming a normal human being as the show progresses and in the most recent arc he's even got a couple moments where he's almost kind of cool.

Some other good, dark series. Suffering Pariah Kaiji (Sometimes translated as Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor). Devilman: Crybaby. Paranoia Agent even if it's ending kind of sucks. Serial Experiments Lain and Monster are great. Another sleeper but I liked Grimgar too. Not really all that dark but it's a really down to earth, depressed kind of anime that might strike a good chord if you're looking for something moody but not too crazy. Maybe as a palate cleanser between other shows.
