Israel was small but had influence of US. When they first started out, they were protected by western allies. Then the war started for Jerusalem. With the tech of the West they could afford. Middle East abandoned the poor and Israel won the effort. Since then, they expanded their territory with brute force migration. Hamas at that time was an even player in power but the chosen allies usually go to the one who can afford it. They haven't been on equal footing since. Israel played defence and the world was still mourning the loss after WWII. No one was going to support another genocide.

In the present, Israel has a foothold that no one argues with. It's been an active war zone on both sides and with no end in sight. No one is the winner when the innocent are involved.
