If gen z and alpha want less sex and romance in media, I wonder if its partly a result of the media catered to millennials and gen x. Was our media tiring to them?
That and a general distrust in others in real life would might make media escapism prefer platonic relationships. Like, while friendships existed in media, their power wasnt always explored through the the true and highs and lows and only practicality of the situation. As society and life becomes more unstable, friendships become more valuable and may have longer term importance to the individual than a romantic or sexual relationship.

Like Reservation Dogs was interesting because the teens were never running through relationships like Gossip Girl. The audience isnt even given a long-detailed description of the one characters romantic past that affects them in the present day. The one lead character to end up in a relationship has that occur slowly in the background, and its not even a pin t of focus between him and his friends but instead their adult families. The adults on the show however were all horny on main.
