One of the cords (of which there are only a certain amount you can attain) you can get is linked to one of the npcs. There are two you can send back to the chapel, Arianna (lady in red dress) and Adella (church lady). Both of them will offer you special items that you can get from them repeatedly once used. Don't take what is offered by Arianna (or at the very least not multiple times) and stick with church lady.
