As far as I'm aware there is not a significantly huge population of English immigrants who settled and integrated into Japan a century and a half ago and helped make Japan the country it is today. Also I'm pretty sure Japan didn't have a colony in England.

I think the problem is that VU is saying that they're not ethnically English, not that they can't be nationally English. Which you seem to be conflating the two.


Maybe that is where we're getting wires crossed, but I don't really see the ethnic side of it to of a greater importance in this case. I think it's a great insult to those people to say they'll just never be considered English, when they've never known themselves to be anything else.
