No, and I would probably agree with you if you'd said a potential life sentence after multiple offenses, when it's clear they're not going to reform. Even then I think a lengthy sentence, but not life, is usually more appropriate. But to suggest first time offenders deserve life in prison is stupid as hell. I have several friends who made a bad judgment call when they were younger and got a DUI. They took their classes and wised up and never reoffended. Hell, some people end up with a DUI/DWI when they drive after taking a new medication they didn't realize would affect their ability to drive well. You really think society would be better putting someone like them away for life after a single mistake?
