At what point should a person have their license permanently revoked?

After the third DUI it's pretty apparent that you don't get it and aren't going to change.

Driving isn't a right.

Agreed, driving is a privilege, and when you keep abusing that privilege, you should get it revoked. Apparantly the 12 prior incidents were bad enough...

As if there aren't people driving with suspended licenses. There was a story of guy here that had 10 DUIs a few years back. They finally took his license away and he just continued to do it without his license. He had 17 DUIs last time they updated the story. That means he was caught 7 more times AFTER they took his license and he still kept getting chances to kill someone because they wouldn't just lock him up for a few years. I don't get it.

I would say heavy fines scaled to the income of the driver for first offense.

1 year for second.

5 for third.

20 for fourth.

Life beyond that. No reduction in sentencing possible.

No, and I would probably agree with you if you'd said a potential life sentence after multiple offenses, when it's clear they're not going to reform. Even then I think a lengthy sentence, but not life, is usually more appropriate.

But to suggest first time offenders deserve life in prison is stupid as hell. I have several friends who made a bad judgment call when they were younger and got a DUI. They took their classes and wised up and never reoffended. Hell, some people end up with a DUI/DWI when they drive after taking a new medication they didn't realize would affect their ability to drive well.

You really think society would be better putting someone like them away for life after a single mistake? Get the fuck outta here dude

Distracted driving (cell phones) actually causes more accidents and death than drunk driving. Yet the worst that happens is you get a $300 ticket. In some places I think it's still perfectly legal to text and drive.
