My family didn't get an internet service until 2000 or so, so in the 90s, I had to rely on myself to figure out how to proceed in many games. Link's Awakening has a few things that would be tough for a 6-8 year old to figure out, so when I found out about this Nintendo game hotline thing, I took advantage of it. I knew that it cost money, but in my mind, I didn't think that I would end up wracking up a phone bill in the ballpark of $100.
