What is Game of the Month Club?
Game of the Month is a community project open to all B8ers where users share, discover, play and/or discuss a select few games every month. The games featured each month are chosen by YOU the users (and Lady Luck)

The Basics
- Each month will feature three games that were chosen via a random drawing from a pool of games that users nominated
- For each game you beat, you get a cool point on our just-for-fun standings as well as a nomination for next month's randomized drawing
- In order to receive the point and nomination, you must beat said game within the calendar month
- If you beat one of the current month's games in the previous month, you can apply for a "recently beaten waiver," but you will only receive a point and no nomination should you do so
- Drawing for next month's games is usually around a week before the end of the month
- If you periodically keep us posted on your progress and/or talk about different aspects of the games, then everyone will think you are super awesome!

Nomination Rules
- You get one nomination automatically each month
- You can receive up to three more nominations in a month for each chosen game that you beat
- Each game you nominate has to be different from both your and other users' noms and cannot include a game that has already been selected for GotM
- Each game must be a standalone game that can be acquired and played on its own (aka cannot be DLC/expansion that requires the base game)
- Nominations only carry over if you beat a chosen game after the drawing for next month's games but before the end of the month

Wickle is typically bad on Sunday/Monday. Sunday because I normally stay to watch all of football (and I think my team is on Sunday Night this week too), and Monday is MNF+prearranged Scarlet stuff. Any other day will typically work for me with CC.

Ah yes, Link's Awakening. Fond memories of this game. It was the first Zelda game I ever owned, back in October of 2000 on Game Boy Color. Very fun, definitely one of my favorite Zelda games, but I can't honestly say I ever beat it (I think I made it to the 6th dungeon). Since I kept the box and instructions, I was able to sell it for some decent money once the 3DS VC version came out. A decision I regret a bit, but at least I still have the game. Nevertheless, I will definitely be playing and shooting to finish it for this month.

I started tonight and I'm already at the third dungeon. The beginning is pretty fast-paced and I pretty much remembered how to do everything and when. So far the only part I struggled with was finding the fifth leaf at Richard's castle. Finally looked it up. It was the one the crow was keeping. Also now as an adult I'm realizing that that Richard is probably the same Prince Richard from For Frog the Bell Tolls, as this game is full of cameos.

I intend to beat at least this game this month, but for now I'll throw my standard nomination at Sonic CD (Sega CD obviously being an obscure console, this game is downloadable on Steam, PSN, and Xbox Live, and is also on the Sonic Gems Collection for Game Cube)

I went ahead and bought Castle Crashers Remastered Waluigi.

As for the Steam group, it appears that it might just be Lolo, MSG, Wickle, and myself, which is perfect since there is a four-player max. Here's what I have in terms of schedules:

Lolo - Available weekends, undisclosed evenings
MSG - ?
Wickle - Likely not available Sundays and Mondays
KCF - Available any evening and some afternoons except the 4th-9th, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day (might also see Zoo Lights at my local zoo in the week leading up to Christmas)

As far as Link's Awakening goes, I'm trying to decide if I want to go a glitch-filled run of the original version or go with the DX version. Either can be incredibly fun in it's own way.

I did start Link's Awakening and am at Bottle Grotto. I plan on getting all the seashells, heart pieces and do the DX dungeon.

I started Link's Awakening tonight. I played for about 20 minutes and got through the Tail Cave. I have the beginning of this game down pretty well in my memory, but I expect the back half to be a little more iffy.

Also started SCII and reached chapter 4. I am playing my old file (making sure to beat every mission and also take a stab at the harder versions) and the collective prices of items in the shop are ridiculous.

I'm spending way too much time doing hard versions of various missions. I am positive that I won't be beating both versions of every mission, but I think that I can get awfully close.

I am on Chapter 7 there and at Angler's Tunnel in Link's Awakening. I should wrap up both by no later than Friday.

In other news, KCF has beaten SoulCalibur II.

I managed to beat both versions of every mission aside from three regular chapters and one subchapter. I could still try to get those done. My co-mains are Takin and Voldo, so maybe doing a different character will give me success in them.

I played a couple more hours of Link's Awakening, got through levels 2, 3, and 4. The trading game seems to be going well too.

Getting the item in the desert, I triggered the fanfare, but the item still fell through the quicksand so I didn't get it. Never had that happen to me before!

If it's the quicksand that I think you are talking about, then you should be able to fall through it and collect the item.

I mean, I am further in the game, but that didn't happen to me. However, I have beaten the game a few times previously, and I am pretty sure that if we are on the same page, you can still go after it.

Oh yeah, this is like my tenth time playing Link's Awakening, so I just went in to get it. But when the worm dropped it, I grabbed the key, the fanfare started and Link raised his arms to hold it, but I guess I was close enough to the hole that the key also went down the hole at this exact moment? So Link just held up nothing, and then I had to jump in and grab the key a second time to actually have it.

Oh, so that's what you meant by fanfare. I don't think that's ever happened to me in Link's Awakening, but for some reason, I think that Link putting his arms in the air holding nothing while celebratory music is blasting has happened to me before in a 3D Zelda.

Started Link's Awakening, first two dungeons went by pretty fast. Not sure if I'll 100% it, don't remember how annoying the seashells are. I'll probably do the DX dungeon in any case.

Soul Calibur II finished! Some of those dungeons really pushed me, but I had a lot of fun overall. Game has aged well.

I have a story that I'm pretty sure that I've told B8 in the past decade, but I have a special story regarding my first time going through Link's Awakening.

My family didn't get an internet service until 2000 or so, so in the 90s, I had to rely on myself to figure out how to proceed in many games. Link's Awakening has a few things that would be tough for a 6-8 year old to figure out, so when I found out about this Nintendo game hotline thing, I took advantage of it. I knew that it cost money, but in my mind, I didn't think that I would end up wracking up a phone bill in the ballpark of $100. My punishment was to dig up rocks in my yard for an entire summer.
