I had a lot of fun with Red Alert: A Path Beyond for a while, even though it suffered from having a handful of active servers. Shit was fun as hell if you got on at the right time and a server was filled.

It was a mod for Command & Conquer Renegade that converted everything to Red Alert, and included almost everything from it and it's expansions (IIRC when I stopped playing it, every unit and structure had been implemented except for the Attack Dog, Cruiser, Yak, and MiG)

Lots of maps were taken right out of Red Alert and made 3D, many chosen or designed to favor different combat styles. One map was pure infantry combat with just a Barracks at each base in a low visibility forest; another had bases on a big O shaped island with a lake in the middle, resulting in air and naval skirmishes for control of the lake to strike from.

You could even build your own Ore Truck to increase your teams cash flow, either mining your standard ore field, or seeking out the gem field hidden on most maps for more cash per haul. Particularly handy if the enemy keeps killing your bases AI Ore Truck. I usually was that enemy running constant Longbow airstrikes; but just like Red Alert, aircraft need to land and re-arm, so you cant just loiter running eternal harassment.

Spies were really fun. You'd appear on the enemy team roster when they checked scores, and could listen/speak through their team chat. Nothing like a little dubious intelligence to convince the enemy armor column that the Allies totally haven't mined the ungodly shit out of the East path to their base. Drive right through there my fellow Soviets, it's perfectly safe and not mined. Trust me!
