I think the mentality here is they want to make an impact (literally). If you can't make a large positive change, then I guess they are ok with making a negative one. They feel like they have no power, or even control of their own lives so they decide to do something that will drastically change (or end) someone else's life.

I doubt it's just "for fun" or due to being bored. You don't throw heavy things into traffic without some idea that you might kill someone.

I'm not a fan of jail for life etc, so yeah, even if they are kids and they do something like that, I say kill em, or lock em up in a facility where they work for the rest of their lives (enough to pay for the costs), or give them the choice of assisted suicide at any point.

I believe anyone with a jail/prison term over 2 years should have that right.
