Austrians want to preserve their culture and way of life. But to make a big deal out of whichever baby was born first in the new year is silly if you take a step back. It's a knee-jerk inappropriate reaction for sure but it's rooted in valid concerns.

I do wonder what they count as racist comments because the example they chose for the article:

One of the hostile messages to the baby's family referred to the new far-right interior minister Herbert Kickl, saying he "is going to send you out of the country. He's the man to do it."

That is not a racist message.
