i listened to numb and apple blossom on spotify because the YT videos didn't work for me.

Eve 6 - Enemy

thought this was a rather boring alt rock song. it wasn't terrible but it was pretty bad.

Envy on the Coast - Numb

i was expecting another shitty post-hardcore song because that's a genre this band plays according to wikipedia (as well as "active rock" - wtf is that?) but surprisingly it wasn't. it sounded more like something a bar band would play. ok, towards the end there were some earrapey screams but i'll forgive those. this isn't something i would ever put on - it's too boring for that - but it wasn't bad. harmless rock song i guess.

E.G.G. a.k.a. COSIO - EU over Progress

first of all, this must be the worst name for a band/artist (?) ever. it's even worse than when a friend of mine in high school called his band "e eleven seven." at several points this tune uses the same chord progression as attract from ridge racer revolution, which is one of my favorite VGM songs, so that was a huge positive. i'm sure there's a million other songs that use this progression and i probably shouldn't try to say something technical about music with next to no expertise, but hey, that's what it reminded me of! but yeah, overall this was an incredible jazz fusion-ish track. adored it from start to finish.

The White Stripes - Apple Blossom

oh hey, it's the siblings-but-not-really again with a song from the album with a dutch title. as i said before i like the white stripes but i'm not a fan of this - i'd rather hear them play music in the style (see what i did there?) they usually do. rock bands doing music hall just isn't a great idea - the beatles should have never recorded maxwell's silver hammer either.

Ty Segall - Feel

damn, this was great! pretty simple rock song but for some reason i really connected to it. if i had longer hair i'd headbang to this for sure. loved the first guitar solo too, it actually reminded me of some of frank zappa's shorter guitar solos from the early '70s, and coming from me that's high praise. well, zappa usually had amazing musicians to accompany his solos and these guys aren't on that level, but to a certain extent you can still make the comparison, i think. anyway, fantastic pick.

Lucy Dacus - Night Shift

i thought this was going to be a boring folk song but it wasn't. i liked the shift to rock and i quite liked the rock part, as simple as it was. but as a whole the song was kind of overlong - i think the rock portion would have been more powerful if it had been shorter. decent, though.
