I'm not even one of those people who thinks the OT is an unreachable masterpiece (Dual Destinies is my second favourite game in the series) but this is one thing it just did better. Some of it may be that its cases were a bit simpler (crazy as that seems now, because "simple" they were not...), or that the newer games twist themselves into contortions in order to surprise even players who've played all the earlier games.
