I can't even really imagine what a Russia dominated Japan would look like today if it actually went down that way.


Russia didn't get involved in the war against Japan until after Hiroshima. Limiting Soviet influence was a factor in the decision-making process, though. It arguably set up a position where they weren't comfortable going after all of Korea, so you definitely could make the argument that it prevented the split of Japan and saved South Korea from the Kim system.
