Since the Infinity runeword was added, Light Sorcs, Trap Assassins and Javazons are arguably even more OP (for PvM anyway), at least offensively. Slap Infinity on your merc and the Conviction aura lowers enemies' resistances and even removes many (Lightning) immunities. I never did a pure corpse explosion focused necro, but I've done just about every other kind. My favorite Necro build...really, my favorite build out of the whole game....was my poison necro.
