I've never had it hit more than 3 times in a row over the span of about 1300 battles and that was just in gen 5.
Well Focus Blast is only used because the selection of pokemon that learn aura sphere and want a special fighting move are very small and Focus Blast is simply better than HP Fighting.

I definitely thought Blizzard/Thunder/Fire Blast/etc. were better as a wee lad.
Then I learned how probability works and Ice Beam, etc. became the preferred choice.
Fire Blast is the only one that's really used since 85% acc isn't bad and isn't realiant on weather since weather is a lot harder to use now due to limited duration.
Plenty of psychic and ghost types used it to break steel and rock types before they could stealth rock or whatever. But these days, that's hardly an issue, so many new moves that have secondary effects which actually make stopping a lot of them easier if you can't outright 1-2hk. Like nuzzle on a bulky electric squirrel. >.> ---
