It is strange that apparently so many obscure games caught his eye back then but earthbound with its huge box advertising the smelling cards didn't.
Does he talk about why he never played it in the video? 40 minutes is a bit long for me.
He said in the vid that the reason he never played it was because Nintendo Power said the game sucked(and the cartridges are super-expensive). Seriously, the advertisements for the game was really weird. Its like they wanted the game to flop.
If you read the video description, he said that he was actually interested in the game despite the poor advertising. He said he just never got to it because he was too busy playing other classics like FFVI and Chrono Trigger.
Oh. I see. So what he said in the vid then was essentially just for comedic effect then. Oh well.
Yeah, he does that a lot. Apparently, he thinks Simon's Quest is a good game, he just did the video for comedic value. ---
