Speaking of cancer, there was a NPR rebroadcast on over the weekend (or maybe last weekend?) which was discussing what science is doing in the attempt to prolong life (including proponents who want to treat aging as a disease, to galvanize the public into doing more to find a "cure," so to speak). During one segment, it discussed how cancer is universal and one of the last great hurdles since, if nothing else kills you, you'll eventually develop cancer.

Oh wow did not know he died, sucks but think of all the other people out there who are dying that nobody on reddit gives a shit about.

But most of them aren't internet-famous entertainers and therefore their names aren't even known. For better or worse, entertainers have an impact on their viewers' lives and, despite usually not having a personal connection, fans are understandable upset when an entertainer dies.
