Some events that transpired:

- One day I went for my workout and everyone was telling each other "happy new year." Someone told me "happy new year" and I just said "happy new year back" wondering wtf was going on. It was september. I later found out it was the jewish new year

- I was used to going to a gym that was open pretty much 24/7, so I never had to worry about days where the gym might be closed because it was pretty much never closed. So the first time I went for my workout on a saturday I realized it was closed on saturdays because it's sabbat

- Once, after my workout, I was changing in the dressing room. Some dude was changing next to me. On the bench between us there was a kippa. The guy looked at it for a second and asked "is this your kippa or mine?" I answered "it's yours"

- Another time, on my way out of the gym, some old man dressed all in black with a long white beard wanted to give me some kind of little square thing. I have no idea what it was. It looked like a wooden square about one inch or so on each side, with some kind of decorations. I looked completely confused. The old dude looked at me suspiciously and asked "did you do your Bar Mitzvah?" I kind of shook my head. Then he asked "are you Jewish?" I said "no." So he smiled and he was like "oh okay excuse me!" as if everything made sense all of a sudden

- I signed a one year contract. My contract with the gym expired at about the same time as my lease so after my contract was up I moved to my old neighborhood so I signed up again with my old gym. But then I saw that the gym kept charging my credit card each month. So I went back and they explained that I had to send them a written notice before the end of my contract to say that I didn't want to renew it, or else it would get renewed for another year. They showed me the contract. It said so pretty clearly. Obviously I should've read the whole thing carefully. I ended up paying for two years instead of one as I planned to. Oh well.

All in all it was a pretty interesting experience. A lot of elderly people training to get in shape, which was a nice change of pace from the bodybuilders and bikers who attend the other gym I went to. I kind of miss the place now.
