MGSVs story is a dumpster fire. Mission 51 or handling Truth From The Man Who Sold The World better wouldn't move an inch towards fixing it. The cassette tape presentation is laughably clumsy in how mission dialogue overrides them. Skull Face is one of the most stupidly convoluted villains in the series. There's no interesting side characters besides Huey and arguably Paz. Code Talker is a waste. Quiet was, to say the least, handled clumsily. Instead of doing something interesting with Liquid they just make him young bitch boy and refuse to characterize him, he's just bad to the bone.

Like I can't even tell you what Skull Faces master plan was and I played the game two or three times. He hates Zero because reasons. He hates English speakers because invaders made him speak a different language at one point, and then caused himself to be unable to speak the languages he loves by experimenting with parasites (seriously, that's a thing, there's a tape between him and Code Talker and he's super angsty about it when CT calls him out), he wants to annilihate English and also sell nukes to small countries except he can disable the nukes and Sahelanthropus is also a nuclear bomb. And major he's burning up

Trailers made a big taboo by making it look like Solid and Zero were in the game, I don't know how Kojima thought that could go over well. Obviously that stuff wasn't an issue by Konami because those trailers were painstakingly put together by him long before the game was out. Another mistake was not calling Chapter 2 Epilogue instead and making Eli a lost plotpoint instead of having someone say some definitive last words if they weren't going to implement 51.

All this unsalvagable plot aside, the gameplay is awesome. So it's a good game and a newcomer to the series would love it and its pseudo-deep shit about meaninglessness of race/identity or whatever
