Trump is so nakedly terrible and without redeeming qualities that the only way you really can support him is to go into full-blown partisan mode. Once you start to admit that some things about him are bad the whole facade crumbles.

I don't think so. You can possibly argue that being friendly with Russia and alienating Germany are both very valid foreign policy positions. But it's remarkably coincidental to then also be ok with being against NFL players kneeling (social issues), separating children at the border and the muslim ban (immigration), his tax plan (economic), or his long history of lies, racism and mocking the disabled (personal). It's all so extreme, so abnormal, but it's not at all ridiculous to be OK with, or at least to defend, one or two of them. It's ridiculous to defend all of them.

It's a more extreme version of my lack of trust for people who are really far left or really far right on every single issue when they are all so disparate. Genuine ones exist, but so many are taking the position because it's left/right, not because it's a true belief. With Trump though his faults are so clear and his controversies so frequent and varied that it's weird that you're morally OK with all of them, and that you would be the same regardless of who was president.
