Pretty much this. I watched the show for the first 3-4 seasons and had a lot of fun doing so. I met a lot of other nice users here because of it, some of which I still talk with even to this day. I was only a casual fan, certainly not one of the super fans that bought merchandise, talked about it a lot in public, or took things way too far and lewded the ponies. Unfortunately, there were a decent amount of those, and those bad apples sometimes made the whole fanbase look bad. It's a shame. Overall, my time as a MLP fan was awkward at times, but still fun.
