Really? I'm more bothered by his completely useless posts at the beginning of the day, because they act as a "hey I'm here" without adding anything to the developing Scum reveals.

It's what Scum do when possible scans are being put up. Scum don't necessarily want to encourage and push those scans forward, either for fear that they show they know the scan is reveal before it's fully claimed, or for fear that they reveal a bluff to be true. One of those "I'm afraid to show that I know more than I do", whereas Town will be like "oh man, somebody posted shifty eyes with a name, clearly that means a condemning Detective scan!"
