I mean, technically, it could be a reboot, since it means restarting something, regardless of if it's a continuation or not, but it doesn't really matter. What would you call it? A continuation?

Er, yeah. I meant to say it IS a continuation.

Like with 2005 Doctor Who. It's not a reboot. It's not starting over from scratch and acting like the previous stuff never happened. It's continuing from it.

But continuation doesn't work either, nor does sequel, because as I mentioned, it actually does throw out both possible continuities the show ended on.

I'd say continuation sort of works. The best example of a reboot is "Batman Begins" which is what started this whole reboot thing, being something brand new and starting over, with no continuation from Schumaker's stuff. We could call the new Rosanne stuff an "alternate universe" kind of thing.

Yeah, but again, it's not a continuation. It throws out all the possible combinations of story developments. I looked up the definition of reboot and it pointed out it was reworking a new story by throwing out the old continuity, which is sort of what Roseanne did.

Of course, in most cases, you are totally right, but I think that Roseanne is a bit of special case because of how it nonchalantly throws around continuity so flagrantly.
