Or just start from x=0 and y=4 and connect it to x=1 and y=7 and every +3 y for every +1 x, no need to figure out that y=0 at x= -4/3


That is indeed easier to graph for such a simple function. Broadly, it's good to determine intercepts, but in practice you can use any arbitrary value instead of just 0, and getting two integer points is useful.
