And in any case, I think there's an area with enemies that give low experience but still give job points, so you have a fallback plan in case you do accidentally overlevel. (I think it was a tower or something?) As far as tips go, if you want the Hero to get the "Hero" job as fast as possible, go for the Luminary advanced class. You only need around 490 battles to master it (That's Gadabout + Dancer included), and then you can go ahead to Hero.
