The advertising thing is kind of a cool concept, since literally everyone wins. The "should be illegal" ad replacement thing is actually a good thing since websites that are serious about generating revenue from ads are forced to examine the idea of non-third-party-tracking advertising (since Brave doesn't replace those). Everything's self contained, too. It shows you ads from a pool of ads, instead of sending your information out to other content providers to pull an ad from the internet. It is intended to provide your private data while still benefiting advertisers. And sites can partner with Brave directly so..... yeah.
