There are also some specific industry specific tools that are going to be unavailable under UNIX based systems. In college though I went 4 years using Linux almost entirely, its superior for programming and has some comparable tools in regard to GIMP/Photoshop, and anything web design. Not sure if AutoCAD is on Linux. A lot of software like that has been ported over in the last 10 years, Linux makes a good work environment. It's definitely getting close, I'll admit that.
