It is, but its lower quality than some alternatives that are easily available. Not sure why you'd want to use it. Its also proprietary as hell.

Firewire is better than USB if you're tracking 16 tracks at once from a Reel 2 Reel which is what I do. Linux drivers allow a direct link for some reason which cuts back on latency between the tracks.

On Windows I can do the same tracking with firewire, but there are variances in each of the tracks which makes them unusable.

USB is like 800 dollars if you want a device that can accomplish the same that a 200 dollar firewire mixing board can do. Any of those lame focusrite boxes can only do stereo before burning a hole in your desk.
